Helpful Hint - To make a payment using the telephone payment line you will need your 11 digit council tax account reference number, which can be found at the top of your council tax bill along with your bank card details. You can also make payment using your debit or credit card on our website at www.bristol.gov.uk/pay. There will be a 1.8% service charge for credit card payments, we do not accept American Express.

Helpful Hint - Council tax is normally payable by 10 monthly instalments from April to the following January each year. Available payment methods can be found on the back of your bill, all instalments are due by the 1st of the month. You can also pay on our website using our online payment facility by telephone and by post. If paying by cheque the cheque must be made payable to Bristol City Council. The amount that you need to pay each month will be shown on your bill.Please ensure you write your 11 digit council tax account number on the reverse of the cheque.

Helpful Hint - Direct debit is the easiest and most direct way to pay, please note payments will be taken on the 1st of each month. Once the direct debit has been set up you'll receive a bill listing the instalment amounts and a date they will be requested. If that day is over a bank holiday it will be requested on the next working day. If for any reason your council tax liability changes we must give you 14 days notice of any changes to your instalments. To set up your direct debit we will require your 11 digit council tax account reference number, your banks name, branch and sort code, your account number and the names of the account holders.
